About Jasleen Royal
Indian singer, songwriter, and composer Jasleen Kaur Royal performs in Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Hindi, and English. Among the numerous honors and nominations, she has received are a Filmfare Award. Childhood and upbringing
Kaur was born into a Punjabi Sikh household on July 8, 1991, in Ludhiana, Punjab. After completing her education at Ludhiana’s Sacred Heart Convent School, she relocated to New Delhi to pursue her education. She graduated with honors from Hindu College in New Delhi with a B. Com.
Having been mostly self-taught and lacking any official music instruction, Jasleen rose to fame in 2009 at the age of eighteen after qualifying as one of the semi-finalists in the inaugural season of India’s Got Talent. She distinguished herself by being able to play several instruments at once. Because she could play the guitar, mouth organ, flute, and tambourine all at once while singing, the judges at the time, Sonali Bendre, Kirron Kher, and Shekhar Kapur, jokingly dubbed her the “one woman band.” She learned to play the piano as her first instrument, thus she can also play that one.
